| Death of Dan Wasson Mr. Dan Wasson, a retired farmer well known among the farm families of Harkness Grove, Graham Chapel, Lehigh and rural Elmwood, died at the home of his brother, Ollie Wasson, who lives on the old Til Wasson home farm, at 11:20 PM on May 20, 1942, from a heart attack. Dan Wasson was born in Stark county, Illinois, on May 27, 1876; he was one week short of his sixty-fourth birthday when he died. Mr. Wasson was the son of George Tilford and Susan (Hovenden) Wasson, both pioneer residents of Illinois. He was one of twelve children, four of whom died in infancy: Martha, Nora, Nettie and Leah. Two others died after reaching adulthood: Effie, Mrs. Frank Taylor, in 1926, and George Wasson, in 1936. Those surviving are: Frank, of Glasford; Mrs. Mina Westbay, of rural Elmwood; Ollie, of rural Elmwood; Mrs. Dora Colvin, of St. Louis, Missouri; and Sue, Mrs. Ed Schmidt, of rural Elmwood. Mr. Wasson was especially devoted to his parents. After the death of his father, Til, in 1893, Dan was the mainstay and support of his mother, Mrs. Susan Wasson, until her death twenty-one years later in 1914. From the death of his grandfather, George Hovenden, in 1901, until her death in 1911, Dan also cared for and was a great comfort to his grandmother, Mrs. Susan Hovenden, who lived with her daughter and grandson on the Wasson farm. Mr. Wasson will be sadly missed by all his family and friends. Funeral services were held Saturday, May 23, 1942, at the
Patterson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Charles Sedgwick of Farmington
officiating. Burial was in the Elmwood cemetery. |
