Mary Jane Hutchinson was born, Aug. 26, 1880, near Wheeling, W.
Virginia, and died Mar. 4, 1909, at Oak Hill, aged 78 years, 6
months, and 6 days.
In early childhood she came with her parents to Peoria county and lived here ever since. She was united in marriage to Jeremiah L. Smith, April 8, 1851. To this union was born 10 children, two sons and eight daughters, six daughters and the husband having gone before.
The two sons, J.C. Smith and F.E. Smith of Oak Hill, and two daughters, Mrs. Ellen Jacobobs of Peoria, and Mrs. Sarah Beern of Cold Water, Michigan, remain to mourn their loss. There also are ten grandchildren, two brothers and one sister and a host of friends and neighbors.
She united with the Methodist Episcopal church early in her married life and remained a consistent member all through life.
She was a faithful wife and a kind and dutiful mother. She was of a meek and quiet spirit, never murmuring of complaining.
We confidently feel that she has gone home to her glory.
Rest Mother/ Safe in the arms of Jesus. The conflict is over. The Victory is won.
The funeral services were held at the Oak Hill M.E. church, conducted by Rev. M.P. Lackland on Saturday afternoon and the remains were laid to rest in the Oak Hill cemetery.
