Charles Hayes, Ex-Caretaker of Park, Dies

BRIMFIELD – Charles Leslie Hayes, 83, died at 5 p.m. Saturday in Bel-Wood Nursing Home.

He was born April 19, 1881, at Brimfield, a son of Charles and Elizabeth Hindle Hayes. He married Mina Miller Aug. 1, 1906, and she died in 1956.

Surviving are two sons, Charles T. of rural Brimfield and Donald of Bernallilo, N. M.; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a brother, Harry of Peoria; and two sisters, Mrs. May Blanchard of Minneapolis, Minn. and Mrs. Ruth Chipman of Boston, Mass. A son, Max, and a daughter, Margaret, preceded him in death, as did a brother and two sisters.

Mr. Hayes spent all of his life in Peoria County and was a farmer and operator of the Brimfield Elevator several years. For 20 years he was caretaker of Jubilee Park.

Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Union Church, Brimfield. The Rev. K. M. Stuckey will officiate and burial will be in Brimfield Cemetery. Visitation is after 4 p.m. Monday at the Patterson Funeral Home, Elmwood. (Oct. 24, 1964)
