| Elmore Man Dies of Gun Wounds Delwin Edwards Takes Own Life, Coroner’s Jury Finds; Was Worried Over Health. The body of Delwin Edwards of Elmore, located in Millbrook township, was found late Monday afternoon in a field on the Joseph Wycoff farm. He had been missing from his home since Sunday afternoon. His death was from a 38 caliber pistol wound in the head. Mr. Edwards had been in ill health for some time. Peoria County Coroner Chauncey Wood conducted an inquest into the death Monday afternoon at the Bouton Memorial home in Princeville. The verdict of the jury found death resulted from the gunshot wound, which was self-inflicted. O. Delwin Edwards was the son of Archibald and Julia Blanchard Edwards and was born at Monica March 12, 1892. He had lived in this area his entire life. His great Grandparents, the Thomas L. Edwards, were among the earlier settlers in these parts, settling here in 1845. He leaves his wife and six children; Archie, a student at Bradley university, Claire, a teacher in Bellville, Maretta, who teaches in Leroy, Cathy Ann of Peoria and Verna Jean and Timothy at home; his aged mother Mrs. Etta Edwards of Champaign, three sisters, Mrs. Amy Nyslander of California, Mrs. Faye Roseberry of Champaign and two brothers, Forrest Edwards of Champaign and Tom of Hollywood. One son, Ensign George Edwards lost his life in the Normandy beach invasion June 6, 1944. Mr. Edwards served overseas in World War One. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the Princeville Presbyterian church. Burial was in the Princeville cemetery. |
