Obituary

Onias William Cummins was born near Akron, Ohio, Sept. 30, 1838 and died at Galesburg, Ill., Sept. 17, 1907, aged 68 years, 11 months and 17 days. He came to Peoria county, near Monica, when a year or two old, where he lived until 1890, when he moved to Galesburg, Ill., where he was still interested in farming at the time of his death. Seven years ago he bought farm interests in Kansas which required most of his time since.

He was married in 1863 to Angie Nelson. There were born to this union six children, two of whom died in infancy. Those surviving are J. C. F. Cummins of Pomona, Cal.; Mrs. H. E. Wheeler, Galesburg, Ill.; Mrs. H. H. Doud Clearwater, Kan.; Lydia Cummins, Galesburg. He is also survived by one brother, H. C. Cummins, Augusta, Kan.; one sister, Mrs. R. L. V. Deal, Monica, Ill. and a half-sister, Mrs. Bert Miller.

Mr. Cummins had been ill since last March but was not confined to the house until the middle of May, since which time he has been most of the time confined to his bed. His affliction was a complication of diseases—Bright’s disease and a general giving away of all the functions of the body. Toward the end a deep sleep frequently came over him, which would last for hours. When awake he was conscious of all around him to the last, though speech was affected so he could talk but little. He was formerly a worker in the M. E. church but was not a member of any church at his death. He was a man with a large circle of friends but with few intimate associates. All was done for him that loving hands could do during the closing hours of life.

The remains were taken to Monica, where the funeral service was held in the M. E. church and interment was in the Princeville cemetery.
