A QUEER WEDDING
There was a wedding in the county jail yesterday. It was a rather peculiar
affair. The high contracting parties are patrons of Esquire Fielder and he did
the business. A few weeks ago Elizabeth Becker accused the lamblike father of
her children of using her and the little ones worse than the average American
cares to treat a snappish feist. She proved her case and Frank Becker went to
jail to learn penitence and decency during a year of confinement. His bail was
put at $5000 and he failed to furnish it until yesterday, when his wife came
‘round and married him and took him off on his honeymoon. Mrs. Becker is a woman
of function. She would not be content with practical matrimony until Becker
agreed to be married openly and in a legal manner. The pair, it seems, had mixed
meal in the same crock and hopped over a broomstick together in the dark o’ the
moon, and had kept house for years with all the machinery of wedlock about them.
But they were never pronounced man and wife till Chief Justice Fielder did it
most impressively in the jail yesterday. After the ceremony was duly performed
the woman want her husband’s security, the prison doors were opened, and the
happy pair went forth to begin life anew again. (Peoria Weekly Journal,

A Brilliant Wedding - E. S. Easton and Wife Lose a Son and Gain a Daughter.
The parlors of the National Hotel were
brilliant with lights and radiant with flowers last night, for the place was to
be the scene of a wedding that could hardly be stowed in any private parlors in
the city. Charles S. Easton, son of E. S. Easton, our well known grain buyer,
distiller and city-builder, was married to Miss Jennie F., daughter of Mrs. R.
A. Smith.
About half past seven the carriages began to arrive in
almost unbroken procession at the ladies entrance on Hamilton street, which had
been duly canopied in the afternoon, in anticipation of the event. By 8 o'clock
the spacious parlors and adjacent halls were thronging with about a hundred
guests, made up mostly of our people of wealth and prominence. They were in
short that class of our people that the Hon. John H. Lewis was going to
represent in congress.
A little after 8 o'clock the bride and groom elect,
with their attendants, took their places upon the floor, and the Rev. Dr. Orr,
of the Second Presbyterian church, in the briefest of ceremonies
pronounced them husband and wife. Supper was served in the ladies' ordinary of
the hotel. Meanwhile the large and elegant dining hall was cleared for the
dance.
Trautvetter's band flooded the rooms and halls with
delightful music, as is their way and the dancers "chased the glowing hours with
flying feet."
Mr. Easton and his bride left immediately for Chicago,
whence they will go soon on a somewhat extended tour east. They will return and
take up the regular routine of married life in their own home on the bluff.
