ELMWOOD CITY ................. Elmwood Twp, Plat Section 07
Accessible within city limits .. VERY LARGE cemetery.
FASH .................................... Limestone Twp, Plat Section 02
For all intents and purposes, this cemetery should be ENDANGERED. If it weren't
for the neighbors cutting a path to it & keeping it mowed, this cemetery would
be DESPOILED and probably lost. From the City of Peoria, drive Farmington Road
crossing Kickapoo Creek, up the hill and to the Lebanese Itoo Hall. Facing the
Itoo Hall, take the subdivision road to the right, past Westwood Heights
subdivision. Continuing for another 150 yards or so, cemetery sits in tree grove

Difficult to drive to. Easiest is FROM the City of Peoria, drive US Route 24
thru Bartonville towards the Illinois Route 9 cut-off to Pekin. Just past the
Cilco Power station & Cilco Lane, turn RIGHT up the hill. Use caution!! This can
be a tricky hill to climb. Cemetery sits at the bluff of the hill overlooking
Route 24 & the Cilco station.
[OLD] JEWISH ........................... Peoria Twp, Plat Section 06
Photos have not been supplied on these CD's of this very old cemetery. As of
11-18-04, I have not been able to locate any stones. For those familiar with
Peoria, this abandoned & despoiled cemetery resides UNDER the first overpass
over the railroad tracks from leaving Peoria & going to Bartonville. I'm told
that nothing remains from this 1880 cemetery.

PARKER ................................... Trivoli Twp, Plat Section 17
This endangered cemetery is not marked on the plat books. To drive to it, drive
Illinois Route 116 from Trivoli to Cramer Road & turn left on Cramer Rd. Drive
1.75 miles crossing Nelson Rd. Cemetery is on the right (still on Cramer Rd).
Should you reach Wasson Road, you will have passed it. Look for a fair sized
cedar tree with numerous grave stones placed against it. 3 military stones still
rooted in front of the tree. Originally, all the stones were on graves but after
a Boy Scout "clean-up" that, from all accounts was largely unsupervised, they
uprooted the stones & placed them in a pile. The cemetery is still bounded by a
fence on 3 sides & Cramer Road to the front.

PEORIA COUNTY FARM ............. Limestone Twp, Plat Section 10
In the City of Peoria, this cemetery once stood on the corner of Maxwell Road
and Illinois Route 116. There is one stone remaining today. The buildings in the
background belong to the Sheriff of Peoria County and house the County Jail.
Several graves remain but are without stones. A DO NOT DIG - Human Skeletal
Remains sign should be posted. Though the County is aware that many graves still
exist, the sign would be more for future generations.
PEORIA STATE HOSPITAL .......... Limestone Twp, Plat Section 25
One word describes these graves - CONTROVERSIAL. The old State Hospital closed
in 1973. There are 4 cemeteries with a total of approx 4000 to 4500 graves. Most
are simple concrete house-made stones with a single number carved on them. This
number was a stone number marking the death of an inmate of the former hospital.
Since the closing of the State Hospital, all records have been (and remain)
closed. The last body laid to rest was in 1973. The State of Illinois decreed
that historians and genealogists can not record the names, birth & death dates
of any grave. Over 1500 are identified and those are recorded. But the remaining
graves bear only a number & the State of Illinois will not release information
even under a Court Order to do so.
PLEASANT GROVE ...................... Logan Twp, Plat Section 17

ROBINSON .................................... Medina Twp, Plat Section 27
Technically, this cemetery is known as ROBINSON-MOSSVILLE or MOSSVILLE-ROBINSON.
This hard to get-to cemetery is classed as DESPOILED beyond repair. There is no
way to drive to it. It rests atop a hill off Illinois Route 29. Just before the
village of Mossville is the Mossville Road. Crossing a creek a Methodist Church
is on the right. The only way I've found to get to the cemetery is to park in
the church parking lot, cross the street & climb the hill through trees, brush,
etc. Be sure you are "in shape" as the climb is strenuous. Cemetery rests atop
the hill. Several stones remain though it's obvious that it is a beer drinking
party place. One grave has been tampered with. No evidence could be found to
verify if the violators reached the coffin. PEORIA COUNTY POLICE INVESTIGATED.

YANKEE .......................................... Chillicothe Twp, Plat Section

This is a misnomer. Penned by someone from the State of Illinois Genealogical
Soc. as Yankee because it was on Yankee Lane. This cemetery is actually HAMMETT.
