After he met his military obligation in Koblenz with the field artillery, he toured Germany and France and in the year 1881 his wander lust compelled him to visit his brother Franz C, here in Peoria. On August 1, 1881 he went in as partner with his brother, in the Library Drug Store, Main and Jefferson Street. In March 1882, they started a branch on the corner of First and Spencer Street, in a small booth 16 by 30 feet. The partnership later became strained and Peter J. became the owner of the small business on First Street. In the year 1887 a much larger house with a dwelling was built for him, 22 by 46 feet.

In January 1903 he finally succeeded, to build his own home in No. 801 First Street. Above is a picture of the same, a solid brick building, 27 by 65 feet, with modern facilities, which was to serve as his home for the rest of his days. He married on November 19, 1885 with Emma Schaefer and a second time on February 6, 1895 with Katharina Lammers. Mr. P. J.
