JOSEPH EATON was born in Temple, Hillsboro county, New Hampshire, June 30 1809. At the age of six years his parents moved to Skowhegan, Maine, being in 1815. He remained there until twenty-one years of age. He then left the paternal roof and went to Andover, N.H., living here until the spring of 1836, when he started for the west to seek his fortune. In June, 1836, he arrived in Kickapoo, Peoria county, Illinois. After engaging in various pursuits for a few years, trading and speculating generally, he began merchandising, and continued it until the spring of 1869, when he closed up his business in Kickapoo and bought a part of section 13, in Brimfield township, and built a good house, in which he still resides. Having a competency, he is enjoying a green old age, with his wife and two children, contented and happy. (page 61)
