Esther B. Hakes Record Reed born 11 Sep 1815 in Cortland County, NY; she died 3 Apr 1905 in Winfield, Cowley County, KS.  She and her family lived in Peoria County, IL from around 1855 to 1875. 

Esther Hakes Record was the sister of Anthony Hakes, Daniel Hakes, Permelia Hakes, Stephen VanRensselaer Hakes, and Alanson Hakes.  She was the daughter of Rensselaer Hakes and his first wife, Caroline (Laney) Eymer.  Rensselaer is buried at West Hallock Cemetery, Peoria County, IL., as well as his second wife, Lucinda Hendrick Hakes.  His sons Anthony, Alanson, and Daniel are frequently mentioned in histories of Peoria County, IL.

 
Three of John and Esther Hakes Record's daughters did remain in Illinois.  The oldest daughter, Lucinda Caroline Record, married James Gale and they lived and farmed in Knox County, IL.  Also, Julia Ann Record married Andrew Kimble and they resided in Chillicothe, IL.  A third daughter, Alvira Record, died and is buried at the West Hallock Cemetery, Peoria County, IL.

Even though Esther died in Kansas and was born in New York State, she spent at least 20 years of her life in Peoria County, IL.  After her husband, my gr gr gr grandfather John A. W. Record passed away, Esther married Elias Button, the husband of Esther's sister Permelia Hakes Button, who had passed away in 1861.  The marriage did not last.  After the dissolution of that marriage, Esther married Thomas B. Reed who was a brother of Simon and Aaron Reed.  They were part of the "Big Train" that came to settle Peoria County, IL.  I am related to Esther's third husband, Thomas B. Reed, by blood also.  My great great grandfather, Thomas Riley Carson, was the grandson of Thomas B. Reed through Thomas's daughter, Harriet Reed Carson.  Thomas Riley Carson married Lovina Jane Record, daughter of John A. W. Record and Esther B. Hakes Record Reed.  Lovina Jane Record Carson is my great great grandmother.
